This week, Moab City Council were tied 2 - 2 (for: Stucki & Sweeten, against: Bailey & Bauman) on the vote regarding pre-annexation of the Lionsback area currently 'owned' by the State Institutional & Trust Lands - SITLA. The purpose of the annexation is to facilitate the building of what is planned to be a Huge resort - right up on the Sandflats Road, heading up to the World-famous Slickrock Bike Trail. The tie-breaking vote on this ill-placed development was our Mayor himself, Happy Dave Sakrison. I am learning how to use this blog and will upload the 26 page pre-annexation agreement that our City is Bending Over Backwards to support - a ridiculous idea, building on Extremely Sensitive Lands.
We need to let our voices be heard on this subject! There is a petition online at www.ipetitions.com/lionsback. Please take the time to write here about this issue and also tell Moab City how you feel!

It astounds me that so many are still willing to sacrifice sensitive lands for such dubious purpose. Tourism, resorts, golf courses, office buildings, will all see declines in demand as peak oil and climate change further squeeze the already struggling economy.
Good luck with the blog and keep up the good work.
